Strange Laws from Across the Nation

Since the theme of this month’s magazine is legal, we decided to do something a little off the beaten path and create a list of what we feel are the weirdest laws from across our great nation. These are rumored to either still exist or existed at one point but have since been repealed or amended to catch up with the times. Either way, they’re hilarious. 


In Alaska, it is illegal to wake a sleeping bear to take a photo

In Arizona, no one can feed garbage to a pig without first obtaining a permit

If you want to walk around barefoot in Texas, you first need to get a special $5 permit

In Texas, you cannot shoot a buffalo from the second story
of a hotel

In Texas, it is illegal to dust any public building with a
feather duster

It is illegal in Texas to milk another person’s cow


First cousins do have the option of marrying each other in Utah, but only after they’re 65

In Utah, you cannot buy alcohol during an emergency. This is because no one can sell alcohol during an emergency


In Virginia, children are not to go trick-or-treating on Halloween
