We Want You to be Informed and Involved

More than 24,000 students walk through the doors of Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD schools each day, and we never take for granted the trust families place in us when they choose EMS ISD for their child’s education.

Whether a child finds their passion in academics, athletics, fine arts, career and technical education, leadership, clubs or one of the many other activities offered across our district, we want every student to find a place where they belong, discover what excites them and prepare them for whatever comes next. That commitment is at the heart of why we believe EMS ISD is A Great Choice. Of course, students can only take full advantage of those opportunities when they are at school. Attendance remains one of our priorities because every day of learning matters. Attendance also directly affects the resources available to our schools. A 1% increase in attendance in EMS ISD represents approximately $2.5 million in additional state funding that can be invested back into educating our students.

This fall, our community also has an important decision ahead. The EMS ISD Board of Trustees has called a Voter-Approval Tax RateElection, or VATRE, and a school bus bond election for November. The two propositions address our operating budget in different ways. The VATRE would add four cents to the district’s Maintenance and Operations tax rate and is projected to generate approximately $6 million annually. The bus bond would allow EMS ISD to finance bus purchases through the Interest and Sinking fund rather than using operating dollars, preserving approximately $3 million annually in our operating budget for our schools. Over the coming weeks, we will continue sharing factual information about what is being proposed, why the Board called these elections and what each proposition would mean for EMS ISD. I encourage you to learn more, ask questions and be prepared to participate. You can find information and submit questions at www.emsisd.com/vatre26.

If you are not registered to vote, the deadline to register for the November election is October 5. Regardless of how you choose to vote, I encourage every eligible member of our community to be informed and participate. You can register to vote at
