Water Play Day Essentials
Water play days are a summer tradition. Whether you’re heading to the beach, the lake, the pool, or a water park, it’s a great way to relax and enjoy the sun and surf. To have fun and be comfortable, be sure to pack these essentials.
Sunscreen
Protecting your skin from harmful UV rays is crucial, so pack a broad-spectrum, waterproof sunscreen with at least SPF 30 or higher. Reapply frequently.
Beach towel
A beach towel is essential for laying on the sand, drying off after a swim, or wrapping around yourself if it gets chilly. Turkish towels are great if space is limited, and microfiber is more sand resistant.
Swimsuit
Pack the swimsuit that makes you feel comfortable — a one-piece, bikini, or full-coverage shirt/short set. Wear what makes you happy.
Sunglasses
Protect your eyes with sunglasses that offer 100% UV protection, blocking both UVA and UVB rays. Polarized will reduce glare, which is great if you’re around water.
Beach bag
A spacious beach bag to carry all the essentials should also be waterproof and dry quickly. Organization pockets help, as does the ability to stand on its own and not trap sand.
Water
The CDC recommends each person drinks 8 oz. water every 15-20 minutes or 24-32 oz. per hour when outside in the sun. Sip frequently, and watch for signs of dehydration.
Snacks
Pack some snacks like fruit, nuts, granola bars, or sandwiches to fuel your beach day.
Hat
A wide-brimmed hat can provide extra protection for your face and neck against the sun.
Flip-flops/sandals
A comfortable pair of flip-flops or sandals are easy to slip on and off for a walk on the sand. Waterproof are even better if you’re heading to a waterpark.
Beach umbrella or canopy
If you want to take a break from the sun, consider bringing an umbrella or canopy for some shade.
