GEICO – The Advantages of a Local Homefield

There’s no doubt that GEICO hit an advertising home run when they introduced the Gecko years ago.  While GEICO has been around since 1936, its popularity exploded when they introduced the Gecko as a leading spokesperson.  The Gecko is multi-talented and exhibits incredible versatility, including a smooth Texas two-step.   Since his introduction, GEICO has become one of the most well known and trusted brands in the industry as a result!

Some people don’t realize GEICO followed that initial home run by loading the bases with independent agency owners such as Greg Hilst and his brother Kevin, who opened their agency five years ago in Keller. They have an actual brick and mortar office to serve customers who prefer to support local business and conduct business in person. It’s a place where their customers can go in the flesh, sit down, and share a cup of coffee while discussing insurance needs.

“I started working with GEICO when I was 19 and in college,” Greg said. “I was in the call center, and later became regional manager. My job was to oversee all the local offices across Texas. That’s when I realized I wanted to be the local GEICO guy. We know a lot of our customers by name and it’s great when they drop by.

GEICO customers get to combine local service with our best-in-class mobile app. Whatever we do, we do it with the idea of providing the best service possible. Many customers buy insurance with the hope they are never faced with using it, but if they are, our goal is to provide rapid, quality support during difficult times.”

GEICO offers a wide variety of insurance products, including auto, homeowners, motorcycle, renters, RV, boat and more. There are six licensed agents at the Keller office, including two bilingual agents. Greg and Kevin also realize not everyone is available from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Monday – Friday. So, once again, they make every effort to accommodate by keeping extended hours and Saturday hours too.

“For us, being locally owned and present is very important,” Greg said. “It allows us to keep our finger on the pulse of the community so we’re personally aware of the local needs. We work with the Chamber, Parks & Recreation, local schools and other local organizations supporting the community. We’re active in the community because we want to make a difference and for people to know who we are, and where and what we are.”
