Fred’s Texas Cafe

Food Network’s GUY FIERI & TRIPLE D NATION REVISIT

“My vision is for Fred’s to roll off your tongue like McDonald’s does.”

For the Coon family, Fred’s Cafe is more than a place to eat. It’s their favorite hangout spot. From catching up with old friends to making new ones or having dinner talks about sports, politics, and daily life while enjoying their most-liked Fredsburgers, chicken fried steaks, and Coldass Beers, the family feels at home under Fred’s roof. The connection of more than three decades makes them a valuable part of Fred’s legacy.

“We dine here several times a week, sometimes meeting friends and other times for the big game. It’s a great spot to catch the Cowboys, Rangers, or Stars games, and with all of their TVs, there’s something on for everybody! The menu has everything from great appetizers to full-blown meals,” says Monte Coon, who lives just one mile from Fred’s Western Center location.

The Sales Manager at Moritz Chevrolet is a proud Fregular (Fred’s regular) and one of the many Texans who have seen the business evolve from a chalkboard-special cafe to a renowned food hub.

“Fred’s is like a family. They are super involved in the community, and it’s a place where we go to visit friends, celebrate graduations, birthdays, and big high school games. Everyone knows your name; they even call me the Mayor of Fred’s, which is always fun!” Coon added.

Fred’s Texas Cafe takes pride in serving the best burgers in Fort Worth since 1978. The Fred Burger with cheese is the most sold item on the menu. The Coon family also recommends Quesadillas, Nachos, Chicken Tenders, loaded bacon and cheese fries, and banana pudding.

The cafe’s authenticity earned its original Currie St. location a feature on the popular TV program Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives with a beloved TV personality Guy Fieri in 2009. Fieri’s team revisited Fred’s, now at the Western Center location, last month for a new program, Triple D Nation. Fred’s is still the only Fort Worth restaurant to be featured by Fieri.

“It’s been a long journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful for everything,” recalls Quincy Wallace, who started as a dishwasher at Fred’s Currie St. location and now owns the business. “This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the unwavering support of our community, which we consider our biggest strength.”

“It’s a blessing and an honor to be at the helm of such an iconic restaurant. The secret to Fred’s food is that it’s made with love; we don’t shy away from big flavors. The secret to our service is that we all love what we do, and that love is evident in every dish we serve.”

The former chef develops the recipes and perfects them alongside his dedicated team. Then, his talented cooks sling burgers, fry chicken fried steak and French fries, and serve delicious desserts daily– all with a unique Fred’s twist, making it a favorite local haunt. Fred’s Texas Cafe has around 100 staff members and currently operates in two locations. The cafe is expanding into Crowley, with the opening planned for Spring next year.

“Through Fred’s and other local greats, we’ve been able to put a spotlight on Texas food in this industry. It goes beyond cheeseburgers; it also includes Southwestern food in general. We try to pay homage to the various cultures that created Texas flavors, from Mexican to Southern flavors,” Wallace said.

Wallace envisions constant growth for his company. He is committed to Fred’s unique culinary approach and is determined to make it a household name, a family-owned brand recognized far and wide.

“My vision is for Fred’s to roll off your tongue like McDonald’s does,” Wallace mentioned, hinting at the cafe’s ambitious plans for the future.

The positive impact the business has created in the community is what makes Fred’s a beloved local brand. Sponsoring Saginaw High School or partnering with local food stands, and other nonprofits, Fred’s is all about supporting the neighbors who are part of their community. The Fred’s Texas Cafe Community Support Initiative is an ongoing project that aims to collaborate with local nonprofit organizations to serve and uplift the community. As part of this initiative, Fred’s showcases the impactful work of local nonprofits and contributes a portion of its sales to their causes each quarter. By partnering with organizations that prioritize the betterment of community well-being, Fred’s Texas Cafe is committed to positively impacting the lives of its neighbors.

“My community is my biggest strength,” Wallace added: “Thank you for giving me the ability to give back to our community. Without the support of Fred’s family, we wouldn’t be able to give back the way we do.”
