A Vision Comes to Life

2017 Bond Program Culminates with EMHS as Construction Begins on 2023 Bond Projects

With the support of our community, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD is making strides to meet the needs of our gr owing population with work continuing on the voter-approved 2017 and 2023 bonds.

A culminating highlight of the 2017 bond program is Eagle Mountain High School, which opened its doors to students in August. This opening of the district’s fourth high school represents the completion of a vision long in the making. During the dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony, the excitement and pride of students, staff, and community were evident.

“The ribbon-cutting event was a celebration of more than just a building, it was a reflection of our community’s spirit and the bright future ahead for our students,” said Dr. Ron Gatlin, EMHS Principal. “Within these walls, we are building a school culture that celebrates achievements, learns from challenges, and supports each other every step of the way. Our goal is to help our Knights be the best for the world, providing high-quality academic opportunities while also instilling values to create compassionate, responsible, and empowered individuals.”

This past summer, EMS ISD also kicked off the first project of the 2023 bond program when it broke ground on the new Wayside Middle School, which is scheduled to open in January 2026 on the site of the former administration complex, next
door to the current school. This new building will replace one of the district’s oldest campuses, ensuring that our students have access to a modern, innovative learning environment.

Site work is also beginning for the Dick and Heidi Elkins Agricultural Science Complex, located on Marine Creek Road next to Marine Creek Middle School and the EMS ISD Administration Building and Discovery Labs Learning Center. This facility will provide expanded opportunities for students involved in
our growing agricultural programs, including spaces for student animals.
It is set to open in 2026.

Looking ahead, plans are in place for the district’s seventh middle school, which will be named Steven G. Newcom Middle School. While the location is still being determined, it will likely be built in the northern part of the district to accommodate the rapid growth in that area. Construction timelines are currently in discussion.

Hunter Lee, EMS ISD Director of Bond Planning and Construction, said that thanks to the community’s ongoing support through bond programs, EMS
ISD is able to continue planning ahead
for projected growth in our area.

“Here at Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD,
our facilities exist to serve our students, and our buildings are designed with that in mind to create an enriching educational environment,” he said. “As our community grows, we remain committed to
providing our students with the best facilities to support their academic and personal development.”
